Technology's Racial Hierarchy

Deskripsi

Send us Fan MailThe provided text explores the historical and contemporary relationship between technological superiority and global power dynamics, specifically regarding the persistence of white status and Western dominance. Historically, Europe leveraged advanced weaponry and maritime tools to colonize Africa and Asia, creating a wealth gap and a psychological sense of racial prestige that persists today. Currently, the "virtuous circle" of research and development funding ensures that wealthy nations continue to lead in innovation, while poorer regions face a brain drain and a lack of capital. This disparity leads to techno-racism, where algorithms and products are designed for affluent Western consumers, often excluding or misidentifying people of color. Ultimately, the source argues that until marginalized nations transition from being consumers to producers of high-level technology, global hierarchies of influence and prestige will remain unchanged.
