Macron’s nuclear plan to defend Europe against Russia

Deskripsi

France is expanding its nuclear deterrence strategy beyond its borders for the first time in decades a 'forward deterrence' initiative. President Emmanuel Macron's plan is to strengthen European security amid doubts over defence commitments from the United States. Growing concerns about Russian aggression have led to nine European allies, including the UK, Germany, Poland and Greece to join the plan, signalling a major shift in Europe's defence strategy. With Norway the latest country to sign up, France is positioning itself as a central pillar of European security in an increasingly uncertain geopolitical landscape. The initiative would allow French Rafale fighter jets to be temporarily stationed at allied bases, including those bordering Russia. So, what could this mean for the future of NATO and European defence?
