Jaishankar Defends Buying Russian Oil, Hits Back at Europe Over Double Standards | Firstpost Live

Deskripsi

Defending India’s decision to purchase oil from Russia, External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar highlighted what he described as double standards in Western criticism. He said India’s energy imports are driven purely by cost and availability, and that Russian oil was widely available in the global market at the time due to shifting supply dynamics. Emphasising that it is India’s sovereign choice, he reiterated that energy security for a large population must come first. Jaishankar also pointed to broader geopolitical contradictions, noting that Europe continues to supply weapons that have been used in conflicts involving India. ----- S.
