Criticizing Politics 101: A Guide for Indonesian Youth Ft. Manik Margamahendra & Abigail Limuria

Deskripsi

When Manik was the President of University of Indonesia’s Student Executive Board (BEM UI), him and his friends led one of Indonesia's biggest student protest labelled #ReformasiDikorupsi. Manik, who's brave enough to call out the members the People’s Representatives Council (DPR) to their face, admits that speaking up in his family's Whatsapp group can be much harder and scarier. There are many intricate nuances when it comes to Indonesian youth and political participation due to norms, values, and frustration that is often discredited as mere apathy. We're here to discuss them in this episode. This episode is in collaboration with the British Council. “The Next Generation” report surveys youths (aged 16-35) in various countries who are undergoing significant change, including Indonesia. This study examines various ways in which Indonesian youth view themselves and their place in the country. Hopefully we’ll be able to provide English subtitles for the full video in due time!) --------------------- What is up, Indonesia?
