3 MILLION Filipinos Are At Risk — And The Middle East War Is Why

Deskripsi

The Iran-Israel conflict isn't just a distant war. It's threatening the $40 billion in OFW remittances keeping this country alive — and we're already feeling it through fuel prices, food costs, and jobs. PGMN Anchor Orion Perez Dumdum sits down with former Department of Trade and Industry Undersecretary Abdulgani “Gani” Macatoman to break down what this conflict really means for every Filipino family. 70% of our fuel comes from the Middle East, which means every escalation hits us at the pump, in the palengke, and in the pockets of every jeepney driver and minimum wage earner. The $40 billion in annual OFW remittances that props up our GDP is sitting right in the middle of the conflict zone. And with Iran deploying $10,000 drones against $5 million interceptor missiles, this isn't a war that ends quickly or cleanly. The Philippines has already declared a state of national energy emergency — and our food security faces its own structural challenges, with the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program's (CARP) fragmented landholdings driving up costs that corporate farming models in Thailand and Vietnam have long solved. The good news: the solutions are real and within reach — renewable energy, electric vehicles, opening up to foreign investment, and creating enough jobs at home so we stop depending on exporting our people. The full breakdown is here. Watch it and let us know what you think.
