Intra-Educational Classism: How the Liberal Middle Classes Dominate the Working Classes in Education

Are you an educator from the working classes? Is your job in education precarious? Are you ADJUNCT?*Why do the liberal middle classes focus so intently on mindfulness, self-care, wellness, diversity, micro-aggression, equity, implicit bias, and inclusion while educators deal with economic insecurity?*Have you ever wondered why these liberal middle class ideas dominate education and pedagogy while educators lack basic job security, healthcare, or a retirement fund?*Why do the liberal middle classes in education fail to challenge capitalism and fail to support an economically equitable workplace?Intra-Educational Classismexplains how the liberal middle classes dominate the working classes in education AND tells us what must be done to end the domination!Intra-Educational Classismcritiques the pedagogical (and social) theories that underlie liberal middle-class practice within educational structures, which ultimately hurt adjunct labor and the working class. It deeply analyzes the texts of pedagogues and theorists, such as Zaretta Hammond, Gary Howard, bell hooks, Lilia Bartolomé, Paulo Freire and others in order to highlight the need for a radical new direction in pedagogical thought, one that not only directly challenges intra-educational classism, but overtly privileges the solidarity and liberation of the working class. In addition,Intra-Educational Classismoffers practical strategies for educators to engage with topics like racism, policing, competition, individualism, and mass communication without neglecting the role class plays in all of these issues.A MUST READ FOR ALL PRECARIOUS EDUCATORS!Read more
