In Her Wake: The Story of Frances Elizabeth Roads Elliott 1852-1924

If you enjoy reading history, you will love In Her Wake: The Story of Frances Elizabeth Roads Elliott (1852-1924), the motivational story of Frances (Franc) Elizabeth Roads Elliott, one of seven founders of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) Sisterhood. As a woman with ideas ahead of her time and as a staunch supporter of women’s rights, Franc fights for women’s acceptance as voters; both as delegates in the Methodist Church and as citizens in the United States. She once commented, “In 1868-9 our senior year, we had been studying philosophy and science of government, subjects that provoked thought, and we began some of us, to question whether the United States was really a democracy when only half of the people made laws for the whole people. Out of such questions the so-called women’s movement grew.” You’ll be inspired by how, after the great economic panic of 1893, this extraordinary woman used determination and resilience to emerge above circumstances and is still touching the lives of women who follow in her footsteps.Read more
