Continuing Actions: A Warrior's Guide to Coming Home

Two tours as a Marine in Iraq taught Dan Sheehan that he'd been extremely well prepared to go to war. Coming home was a different story. After stumbling through the aftermath of his own combat trauma as a helicopter gunship pilot and special operations forward air controller, Dan discovered a gap in his understanding of the warrior's journey that left him vulnerable to injuries in the years that followed.Continuing Actionsdraws on the works of mental health professionals, comparative mythology scholars, and other veterans to expose the reality that warriors have always faced challenges after combat. Using the language of squad bays, locker rooms, and firefights, Dan attacks the stigma associated with seeking help. He explains how these challenges impact warriors on multiple levels and how modern training and preparation leave veterans, and their families, exposed to needless suffering.Continuing Actionsgoes beyond identifying the problem and offers pragmatic solutions for veterans to protect and heal themselves, their comrades, and their family. With a Foreword by Dr. Jonathan Shay, bestselling author and esteemed leader in PTSD research and treatment,Continuing Actionsilluminates a path through the most critical phase of the modern warrior's experience: the challenges of coming home.Read more
