Beyond the Barn: The Story of Erasmus Dale "Doc" Wineland: A Country Veterinarian and the Transformation of Rural America in the 20th Century

What does a meaningful life look like? For Erasmus Dale “Doc” Wineland, it looked like worn work boots, calloused hands, and a heart big enough to hold a whole community.Beyond the Barnis a moving, richly detailed biography of a man who was more than a veterinarian—he was a teacher, a beekeeper, a farmer, a fisherman, a husband, a father of ten, and a grandfather to generations. Known simply as “Doc” around Booneville, Arkansas, Erasmus Wineland spent his life in service to others, healing animals and guiding people with quiet wisdom and relentless dedication.Told through family memories, oral histories, and personal anecdotes, this biography offers an intimate portrait of a man whose impact stretched far beyond his humble profession. His two granddaughters—who lived with him for nearly a decade—share reflections of awe, gratitude, and deep love for the man who taught them about the world through his example.More than a life story,Beyond the Barnis a testament to rural values, American perseverance, and the kind of legacy that doesn’t make headlines—but changes lives.Publisher's note: The Kindle edition and paperback have different cover art.Read more
