The private equity firm has been in discussions for several months about a takeover of Workday, which makes software for business tasks such as human resources, Reuters reported Thursday citing unidentified people familiar with the talks. There is no guarantee a deal will occur, the newswire said. The shares jumped 26% to $220.50 before they were halted for volatility. Workday has been one of the software companies whose business has been threatened by artificial intelligence startups. The stock had dropped 18% through Wednesday’s close.- Hertz Global Holdings (HTZ) shares tumbled after Pershing Square Inc.'s chief investment officer said the asset management firm has sold its stake in the car-rental company. Pershing lost confidence in Hertz's management after the firm announced a funding plan that "we did not think was necessary," said Ryan Israel.
