boulangeries and bicycles: A cycling adventure in Europe

Award winning author Steven Herrick journeys across France on a bicycle, following the canals, rivers and back roads while sampling the delights of the regions. This is a gentle meander through the rural landscape and culinary expanse that is France. Accompanied by his wife, Cathie they also venture into Germany and turn south to the daunting Swiss Alps. After crossing the famous Saint Gotthard Pass, it's downhill all the way to Italy. Adopting the mantra that 'cycling is just an interlude between meals,' this book is an exploration of culture and cuisine; history and wine; society and beer; all experienced at a casual fifteen kilometres per hour. 'boulangeries and bicycles' is a travel adventure, a restaurant safari and a guidebook for those who enjoy slow food, easy cycling and historic villages. Steven Herrick is the author of twenty-four books for children and young adults and seven travel books. He has twice won the NSW Premier's Literary Award and his books have been shortlisted for the prestigious CBCA Book of the Year Award on eight occasions. He regularly visits schools throughout the world to perform his poetry and discuss his books.Read more
