YK 92: Cyrus Jirongo and the Political Machine That Changed Kenya Forever

Description

Listen. In the early 1990s, Kenya’s politics changed forever. This documentary dives inside YK 92, the shadowy youth group that revolutionised campaign strategy, money politics, and political mobilisation ahead of the 1992 multiparty elections. At the centre of it all was Cyrus Jirongo—young, ambitious, and trusted at the highest levels of power. So how did YK 92 operate? Where did the money come from? And in real sense, how did their tactics reshape Kenyan elections, political loyalty, and youth mobilisation? From behind-the-scenes manoeuvres to public spectacle, this film unpacks the strategies, influence, and long-term consequences of YK 92 on Kenya’s democratic journey—effects that are still visible in modern campaigns today.
