What If Your Rent History Could Replace Your Payslip at the Bank? | Nesti Africa

Description

Have you ever wondered why you're able to pay rent consistently every month, yet struggle to qualify for financing when it's time to buy a home? But what if that could change through your rentscore? For many freelancers, entrepreneurs, consultants, creators, and gig workers, the biggest challenge isn't income; it's the paper trail (payslip) and proving it. In this episode of Be That Woman, I sit down with Christabel Ojuok, Co-Founder of Nesti, to unpack one of the biggest financial frustrations facing Kenyans today: renting, homeownership and access to credit. We discuss: → Why rent consumes up to 40% of your income but often counts for nothing financially → The truth about renting vs buying a home → Why banks prioritize payslips over real-life payment behaviour → How a rent score could change access to financing → The challenges behind rent-to-own housing models → What freelancers and self-employed professionals need to know about homeownership without a payslip → Buying off-plan: risks, realities, and red flags → The future of housing and financial inclusion in Kenya If you've ever felt stuck between paying rent and building wealth, this conversation will challenge how you think about your financial journey. 🎙️ Watch until the end for practical insights on turning your biggest monthly expense into a stepping stone toward future ownership.
