We asked Kenyans about money trauma...it got personal - with Cece Ojany (Wall Street Mtaani)

Description

What’s one money belief you grew up with that you’re still unlearning today? In this episode of Wall Street Mtaani, we take the conversation to the streets, listening to real Kenyans share their experiences, beliefs, and struggles with money. From scarcity mindsets to fear of spending, the responses reveal something deeper: Many of us are not managing money, we are reacting to it. Joined by mindset and leadership coach Cece Ojany, we unpack the concept of Financial Trauma: How childhood experiences, family beliefs, and even historical systems shape the way we think, feel, and behave around money today. Financial trauma isn’t always one big moment, it can be small experiences repeated over time, shaping our habits, fears, and decisions without us even realizing it. In this conversation, we explore: 1. How your upbringing influences your relationship with money 2. The difference between scarcity mindset and abundance thinking 3. Why some people overspend… while others are afraid to spend at all 4. The role of colonial history and social conditioning in financial behavior 5. How your nervous system and emotions affect financial decisions 6. Practical ways to unlearn unhealthy money habits and build better ones This episode is not just about financial literacy. It’s about self-awareness, healing, and understanding your money story.
