Description

In Episode 5 of this series, Tariq Munir Ahmed takes a deep dive into the most defining and controversial phase of Imran Khan’s political journey — his tenure as Prime Minister from 2018 to 2022. This episode explores the rise of PTI from a movement promising “Naya Pakistan” to a government struggling with internal contradictions, political pressure, governance challenges, and power dynamics. Instead of emotional slogans, the discussion focuses on the decisions, personalities, and mistakes that shaped Imran Khan’s time in power. The conversation analyzes: The promises and expectations attached to the PTI government Imran Khan’s emphasis on the idea of a “Riyasat-e-Madina” and how religion became part of political messaging His relationship with powerful political figures and insiders, including discussions around Aun Chaudhry, Jahangir Tareen group politics, and Punjab power struggles Major projects, governance decisions, and the image-building politics of the PTI era The tension between idealism and practical governance How the system, media, bureaucracy, and political alliances evolved during his rule The episode also reflects on: The economic difficulties faced during the PTI government Internal conflicts within Punjab politics The civil-military relationship during 2018–2022 Why many supporters still saw Imran Khan as a symbol of resistance even after his removal from office Rather than presenting a one-sided narrative, this episode attempts to understand the successes, failures, beliefs, and contradictions of one of Pakistan’s most influential political figures.
