De l'album Dying on the Inside: Women Lifers at Muncy Prison

Description

Now that the deadline has passed for the General Assembly to update sentencing guidelines for second degree murder and lawmakers have failed to do so, the 1,100 people serving mandatory life without parole sentences for second degree murder are waiting to learn how their sentences may change in the future. Cherri Gregg speaks with Jamie Silvonek, a senior reporter for the Prison Journalism Project who has served ten years at SCI Muncy. At 14 years old, Jamie pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 35 years to life for her role in the murder of her mother. Cherri and Jamie discuss how women at Muncy felt leading up to the lack of action from lawmakers, what the next steps are for women serving mandatory life without parole sentences for second degree murder, and how Jamie hopes sentencing guidelines will be changed in the future. Dying on the Inside: Women Lifers at Muncy Prison is a production of Create. Genius.
