Description
In 1347, a Moroccan scholar arrived at a Filipino kingdom and witnessed something that shocked him: a warrior princess commanding an all-female cavalry unit who had defeated every man who challenged her. Her name was Princess Urduja. And she told every suitor the same thing: "Defeat me in combat, or you cannot marry me." No man ever could. 🗡️ WHO WAS PRINCESS URDUJA? Princess Urduja was the legendary warrior queen of Tawalisi, an ancient kingdom in what is now Pangasinan, Philippines. According to the only historical account we have—from the Moroccan traveler Ibn Battuta—she was: • Commander of the Kinalakihan, an elite all-female cavalry unit • An expert warrior trained in combat from childhood • Governor of a major port city (she EARNED this position by winning a battle) • Fluent in multiple languages including Turkish and Arabic • Undefeated in single combat against every challenger • Ruler of a kingdom that rivaled Mongol China in power ⚔️ THE ALL-FEMALE ARMY THAT TERRIFIED ENEMIES In Urduja's own words (recorded by Ibn Battuta): "With my army of free women, slave girls and female captives, all of whom fought just as well as men could, I won a big battle." She became governor instead of her brother because she WON with her female army. Think about this: The year is 1347. At this exact moment, women in medieval Europe couldn't own property, couldn't hold office, were considered property of men. Meanwhile in the Philippines, a woman was commanding cavalry units and governing cities through military victory. 💍 "DEFEAT ME OR YOU CAN'T MARRY ME" Many suitors came seeking Princess Urduja's hand. She was young, beautiful, wealthy, powerful, and royal—the perfect match. Nobody ever qualified. Not because men didn't try, but because no man wanted to risk the shame of being publicly defeated by a woman. So Princess Urduja ruled unmarried for her entire life, governing with wisdom and strength. 🤔 REAL OR LEGEND? Here's where it gets controversial: No historical records except Ibn Battuta's account ment
