Simon Weston: Burned in War, Rebuilt Through Purpose, this episode will 💯% divide opinions.

Description

Simon Weston is one of Britain's most recognised veterans and an enduring symbol of resilience, courage and determination. A former Welsh Guardsman, Simon was serving aboard the RFA Sir Galahad during the Falklands War when the ship was attacked, leaving him with severe burn injuries. Following years of surgeries, rehabilitation and personal challenges, he rebuilt his life and became one of the UK's most respected public speakers, authors and mental health advocates. In this episode, Simon shares his experiences of military service, the realities of the Falklands conflict, his long road to recovery, and the lessons he has learned about resilience, purpose and the power of a positive mindset. This is an honest and inspiring conversation about overcoming adversity, finding meaning after trauma and refusing to let life's toughest moments define who you are. A powerful story of service, sacrifice and the strength of the human spirit. 0:09 — Simon Weston introduces himself 3:02 — Growing up in the RAF and early childhood 6:26 — Why he joined the Welsh Guards 9:09 — Discipline, self-respect, and military culture 15:40 — Training and being broken down/building up 17:05 — Preparing for Northern Ireland 18:26 — Northern Ireland versus conventional warfare 19:11 — Falklands memories and early incidents 36:32 — Falklands deployment and the trip down 39:47 — The landing, ships, and the Galahad 47:24 — Was it political?
