S4 E6: The Sinking City

Description

Season 4 • Episode 6 — The Sinking City. Before dawn, Manila holds its breath. Along the black-glass stretch of Manila Bay, the water whispers—bells, broken wood, prayers in forgotten tongues. Is it just weather and bad luck, or something older answering for centuries of greed, conquest, and loss? Tonight we follow the tides back through time: the marshes before Intramuros, the arrival of the Spanish, and the Manila Galleons—floating vaults of silk, silver, and stolen gold—whose wrecks litter the bay and whose tragedies still haunt the shoreline. From eyewitness accounts of lanterns drifting against the current to fishermen who swear an entire ship passed silently beneath their boats, these are the stories of the drowned—captains who ignored warnings, overloaded cargoes, cursed holds, and the people who never found home again. This episode weaves folklore, eyewitness testimony, and history into one chilling thread: how Manila’s floods, shipwrecks, and the ghosts of the galleons shaped a city that never quite forgets. Listen for the bells in the mist—and if the water calls, ask what it wants paid. Send your encounters with the bay to storiesphpodcast@gmail.com. Show notes and support links in the description.
