LIVE: Trump Cracks Down on 'Birth Tourism' Network in Africa, Europe | US Visa | Firstpost Africa

Description

The Trump administration has intensified its global immigration crackdown, targeting organised 'birth tourism' networks across Africa and Europe. In a massive sweeping operation, the US State Department revoked hundreds of visas and issued permanent travel bans to individuals accused of misleading consular officers during visa interviews to secure automatic American citizenship for their children. The legal enforcement utilises visitor visa regulations first introduced during Donald Trump's first term in 2020. Concurrently, the policy shift is compounding major disruptions for everyday African travellers. Reports reveal the State Department is drastically cutting its visa-processing presence on the continent, reducing the number of functional processing embassies and consulates from nearly 50 down to just 20 regional hubs. While critics argue these actions defend the integrity of US citizenship, international experts warn that the heightened scrutiny will make ordinary travel to the United States exponentially more difficult.
