Gyakie on Fan Pressure, Fame Fatigue & Finding Peace in the Chaos | Afrobeats Intelligence

Description

Ghanaian Afrofusion artist Gyakie joins Afrobeats Intelligence for a rare and revealing conversation that traces her journey through music, identity, and creative purpose. Known for her soulful delivery and thoughtful lyrics, Gyakie opens up about the emotional and artistic evolution behind her new album, After Midnight, and how she’s learning to carry her father’s legacy while carving a distinct lane of her own. As the daughter of Ghanaian highlife pioneer Nana Acheampong, Gyakie reflects on growing up surrounded by music, why she kept her lineage quiet early in her career, and how her relationship with heritage has evolved. She speaks candidly about navigating the pressures of fame, the complexity of being labeled a "nepo baby," and her deep desire to earn everything on her own merit. Throughout the conversation, Gyakie also shares: The viral backstory behind “Bakalamish” and how a freestyle turned into a cross-cultural hit Her early experiences as a university student blending Ghanaian and Nigerian cultures Why highlife, Afrobeats, and Amapiano are all part of her sonic DNA The responsibility she feels to her fans, and the personal DMs that keep her going Her creative process behind After Midnight, including a total overhaul of its production The reality of working with a major label and what it means for her global aspirations How love drives not only her songwriting, but how she sees her role in the world This is Gyakie at her most thoughtful and grounded, offering perspective on the sacrifices behind her success, the quiet discipline that fuels her artistry, and the joy she still finds in the simple act of performing for people who believe in her voice. From Ghana to Nigeria to the world, Gyakie shows us what it looks like to stay rooted while rising.
