365 Daily Devotions: Seminary Edition 💁🏻 Concept: Worship Service (Proskuneō) New Testament Understanding: Another Greek word for worship is prokuneō which means to show respect or to literally prostrate fall (Matthew 2:11). It is never used as a ritual or scheduled event, like we do in the modern times. When Jesus applies the term as worshipping God in Spirit and in truth (John 4:24), He simply means that worshiping God must be done directly and it is no longer limited in space and time. Modern Misconception: In modern times, worship is always associated with church buildings or places of worship. According to Jesus, true worship must be done in Spirit and in truth anywhere, not limited by space and time.
