Nephthys - Egyptian Goddess of Death: From Her Origins to Her Feminist and LGBTQ+ Perspective

Egyptian mythology, rich in symbolism, has long been viewed through the lenses of religion, power, and human relationships in ancient Egypt. In the 21st century, the rediscovery and reinterpretation of mythological figures, including the Egyptian gods, have allowed these stories to be read new perspectives that address themes of gender, power, and sexual fluidity. The rigid, patriarchal structure often projected onto ancient mythologies cannot be separated from the cultural visions that have predominated in traditional interpretations. The stories of Osiris, Isis, Set, and Nephthys reveal multiple meanings and complexities that escape the normative binaries characteristic of modernity. Collectively, these gods represent narratives of power, betrayal, love, and resurrection that can now be read a non-normative perspective. An LGBTQ+ approach to mythology suggests a way to respect diversity and offer more inclusive readings. By focusing on the ambiguity of gender roles, power dynamics, and unconventional relationships, we can explore Egyptian myths from an angle that connects with contemporary values of sexual and gender diversity.Read more
