Defeating Dementia: My Recovery from Alzheimer's

“Defeating Dementia … is a critically important account that should be read by the millions in the early stages of dementia, their caregivers, the many at risk for dementia, and the families searching for the very hope that McNear provides.” Dale. E. Bredesen, M.D. Author of the New York Times Bestseller, The End of Alzheimer’s Do you hear yourself or someone you love saying the words, "I can't remember or “I don't remember” more frequently? Are you wondering if something seriously wrong may be starting to happen? Afraid to find out? Don’t really want to know what’s going on? YOU ARE NOT ALONE. In 2009, I began having serious problems with my memory. It took three years before I was diagnosed and in those three years our finances became a train wreck. I wouldn’t admit to myself or anyone else that my mind was slipping. I was afraid, but more than that, I believed that even if I had dementia, there was nothing that could be done to help me. I thought dementia was irreversible and terminal. I was wrong. Thanks to a recent breakthrough in dementia studies and treatment, I am currently recovering from early onset Alzheimer’s. That is correct. I am one of several thousand people in the United States following the recently developed Bredesen Protocol and, as a result, my memory and my life have been restored to order. In this book, I will take you on my journey and will tell you about the Bredesen Protocol that saved my life. I also provide helpful information for caregivers and outline the different kinds of dementia. I believe that, once you have read this book, you will feel empowered, whether you are facing dementia yourself or are caring for someone who is. You are not helpless. You are not alone. And, there is hope. I’m living proof of this.Read more
