A Midwestern Gay Boys Story is an answer to many questions that have been asked about what it was like to be gay in the Midwestern U.S. from the late 1950s until the present.The author addresses many of the attitudes towards how people were treated who were LGBTQ+, long before the acronym was even created. There were many dangers, threats, and constantly living in fear, shame, guilt, and terror of being discovered for who you are. Even though it did not affect the author, personally, there were many LGBTQ+ people who lost their lives, families, and jobs/careers simply for being who they are.These are about personal struggles and becoming who the author truly is.
