What If Trees Could Tell Their Stories? | Uday Krishna | TEDxHyderabad

Paglalarawan

A tree that saved 150 lives. A tree that sheltered robbers. A tree worth ₹100 crore. A tree that inspired strangers across the world to come together and protect it. Over 40,000 kilometres and 150 remarkable trees later, Uday Krishna discovered something unexpected: the story of trees is ultimately the story of us. Through The Big Tree Quest, he uncovers living witnesses to history that have survived empires, shaped communities, and quietly protected humanity for centuries. At TEDxHyderabad's Fire Up, this talk sparks a different kind of urgency not to admire trees from a distance, but to notice what we stand to lose before it's gone. Uday Krishna is an environmental storyteller, conservation advocate, and founder of the Vata Foundation, dedicated to protecting India’s natural heritage through community-driven action. Deeply connected to the wilderness, he advances conservation through wildlife photography, jungle rejuvenation, and immersive storytelling. He leads the Big Tree Quest, a unique initiative documenting India’s oldest and largest trees, highlighting their ecological and historical significance to protect these vanishing giants. Traveling across remote landscapes, he documents biodiversity and promotes grassroots conservation. Believing that emotional connection drives preservation, Uday uses compelling visual narratives to spark awareness. Through impactful campaigns and heritage tree recognition efforts, he inspires a new generation to reconnect with nature as essential to human survival. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
