Trita Parsi: Trump's Iran Deal Is America's Biggest Humiliation in a Generation

Paglalarawan

Trump says the Iran deal is "largely done" — but what has America actually agreed to? Joined by Trita Parsi (Quincy Institute), we break down the MOU in real time: what's in it, what's conspicuously absent, and what it means for the regional order America spent decades building. The headlines are missing the bigger story. Iran has emerged from a war it didn't start with stronger deterrence than a nuclear weapon ever gave it — permanent leverage over the Strait of Hormuz, the chokepoint for 20% of global oil. The draft contains no enrichment cap, no dismantlement, no ballistic missile limits. Just a framework and a ceasefire. Meanwhile, China has quietly repositioned itself as the indispensable power broker in a Middle East Washington can no longer manage alone — a shift with consequences that extend far beyond this deal. We cover what the 14-point MOU actually says and what it doesn't, why Hormuz is now Iran's permanent trump card, China's role as the silent architect of the new Middle Eastern order, Netanyahu's fury and the growing US-Israel fault line, and whether this represents strategic restraint or America's most humiliating diplomatic retreat since Afghanistan. Trita Parsi is Executive Vice President of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft and one of the foremost experts on US-Iran relations.
