This African Island Was One of the World’s Richest Cities Before Europeans Arrived | Kilwa

Paglalarawan

Before Europe ever set foot on Africa’s shores, there was Kilwa. On the Swahili Coast of present-day Tanzania, Kilwa Island rose to become one of the richest cities in the world, built on gold trade, Indian Ocean commerce, and advanced African governance. From monumental stone architecture to vast trading networks linking Africa, Arabia, Persia, India, and China, Kilwa was proof that Africa was never isolated — it was central to global history. In this documentary journey, I travel to Kilwa Kisiwani, exploring the ruins of palaces, mosques, and ports that once controlled the gold routes of Southern Africa. This is the story of Africa’s lost city of gold, its rise to unimaginable wealth, and how history slowly buried its greatness after the arrival of Europeans. This film challenges what we were taught about Africa’s past — and asks a deeper question: What else was erased from Africa’s story? 🎥 Filmed on location in Kilwa, Tanzania 📍 Swahili Coast | Indian Ocean Trade 📜 African history before colonization #AfricaHistory #AfricanCivilizations #LostAfricanCities #KilwaKisiwani #KilwaIsland #SwahiliCoast #PreColonialAfrica #AfricanEmpires #IndianOceanTrade #GoldTrade #AfricanWealth #ForgottenHistory #UntoldAfricanHistory #AfricanArchaeology #AfricanDocumentary #HistoryDocumentary #TanzaniaHistory #EastAfricanHistory #SwahiliHistory #AfricanKings #AfricanArchitecture #MedievalAfrica #AfricanMaritimeHistory #GlobalTradeHistory #AfricanHeritage #DecolonizeHistory #AfricanNarratives #WorldHistory #BlackHistory #AfricanGold #AncientCities #HistoricalTravel #CulturalHistory #AfricanExploration #HistoryYouTube #DocumentaryFilm #TheKenyanHistorian
