The Youngest Country Has One of the Highest Maternal Mortality Rates | Saving Moses Podcast Ep. 21

Paglalarawan

South Sudan is the world's youngest country. It's also one of the deadliest places on earth to give birth. Sarah recently traveled to South Sudan — flying into remote towns on a chartered four-seater plane and visiting hospitals that exist in name more than in practice — to explore whether Saving Moses should expand BirthAid there. What she found made the answer clear. In this episode, Sarah covers: - Why South Sudan has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world, and why losing a mom in childbirth creates ripple effects that reach far beyond the delivery room. - Patrick — a South Sudanese OB-GYN who studied in China for six years and came straight home to serve his people in Pibor. - Betty — a midwife in Boma who trains birth attendants every single day, travels to remote villages to teach, and will take anyone who wants to learn — whether they can read and write or not. - The internal conflict, private militias, and oil-driven power struggles shaping South Sudan's instability today Having a baby in South Sudan looks nothing like having a baby in the US. But in the middle of all of it, there are people showing up every single day to change that — and Saving Moses wants to help. 🔔 Subscribe so you don't miss future episodes. 📲 Share this episode with someone who needs to hear that hope is possible anywhere. 🌍 Learn more or get involved: https://www.savingmoses.org/donate-to-saving-moses/ ✨ Connect on Facebook: www.facebook.com/savingmoses 🆇 Follow on X: https://x.com/savingmoses 📸 Engage on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/savingmoses
