The Dopamine Trap: How to Keep Your Intentions Clean || Hisham Abu Yusuf

It’s easy today to fall into the trap of doing good deeds for the wrong reasons. Helping others, giving charity, or volunteering can start to feel like a way to get social approval, status, or even personal gain. But the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ reminded us: “Actions are judged by intentions, and every person will get what they intended” (Bukhari & Muslim). No matter how big the action looks on the outside, if the heart is chasing ego, recognition, or wealth, the reward can be lost. Modern life constantly pushes us toward validation — likes, praise, reputation — and it can sneak into our acts of kindness. That’s why checking your intention is so important. Ask yourself before you act: “Am I doing this for Allah, or to impress people?” Small acts done sincerely can be more powerful than grand gestures done for show. Purifying your intention isn’t just about spirituality — it also builds self-awareness, confidence, and real impact in life. When your deeds come from the heart, they not only benefit others but also bring lasting fulfillment, far beyond temporary worldly rewards. #IntentionMatters #Niyyah #GoodDeeds #Sincerity #StopPeoplePleasing #EgoFree #PurifyYourIntention #IslamicGuidance #Riyaa #SelfDevelopment #ServeWithHeart #ModernSpirituality
