Nigeria’s Insecurity, Faux Democracy & failed leadership

Paglalarawan

In this episode of Flashpoint, we take a deep and critical look at the growing insecurity in Nigeria, police brutality, and the deeper structural issues affecting governance. Why does insecurity persist despite Nigeria’s vast resources? Why do citizens still struggle with basic services like electricity, security, and economic stability? And more importantly — is Nigeria truly operating as a democracy? This discussion explores how post-colonial leadership in Africa has inherited and, in some cases, reinforced systems that treat citizens as subjects rather than empowered stakeholders. From rising fuel costs to proposed taxation on self-generated electricity, the burden on Nigerians continues to increase without corresponding improvements in public service delivery. The episode also examines: Police brutality and state accountability The legacy of colonial governance structures in Nigeria The failure of centralized power systems The urgent need for decentralization and institutional reform Why Nigeria may need a new, people-driven constitution Rather than focusing on individuals, this conversation highlights the importance of building strong institutions and redefining governance in a way that truly reflects the will of the people. This is not just a critique — it is a call for reflection, reform, and responsibility.
