We’ll master the ma…sh “sandwich,” practice with high-frequency verbs, and turn negatives into questions with wash. Notebook ready—bismillah! The basic formula (magic sandwich) ma + [verb] + sh ma shrab sh → mashrabsh = he didn’t drink ma msha sh → mamshash = he didn’t go ma kla sh → maklash = he didn’t eat Make it a question (yes/no or negative question) wash + sentence Wash mshiti l-Maghrib had l-3am? → Did you go to Morocco this year? Wash ma-kliti-sh t-tajin b-l-7em? → Didn’t you eat the tagine with meat? Wash ma-shrbti-sh l-7lib? → Didn’t you drink the milk? Quick person examples (past) ana: ma-klit-sh → I didn’t eat nta/nti: ma-kliti-sh → you didn’t eat howa: ma-kla-sh → he didn’t eat hiya: ma-klat-sh → she didn’t eat 7na: ma-klina-sh → we didn’t eat ntoma: ma-klitu-sh → you (pl.) didn’t eat huma: ma-klaw-sh → they didn’t eat Bonus (present-tense taste) Ongoing actions also negate with ma…sh around the verb form: kayakul → ma-kayakul-sh (he doesn’t eat / isn’t eating) Object pronouns with negation Wrap the verb+pronoun inside ma…sh: shuftni → ma-shuftni-sh (you didn’t see me) 3titiha → ma-3titiha-sh (you didn’t give it/her) Tips In fast speech, forms often contract (e.g., mashrabsh). Keep the sh at the end—even with pronouns attached. Same pattern works for most verbs; irregulars still follow ma…sh.
