Michael L. Burge grew up in North Carolina and Virginia, watched his parents split, was a good kid overall — skipped college, started working, got caught up with the wrong crowd, started robbing houses and businesses, and received a 17 year sentence in the North Carolina state prison system that took him in at 23 years old and handed him back to the world at 40. _____________________________________________ #northcarolina #truecrimestories #prisonlife _____________________________________________ Thank you to FACTOR for sponsoring this episode: Head to https://factormeals.com/lockedin50off and use code lockedin50off to get 50 percent off and 1 free breakfast item per box for 1 year, while supplies last until 10/31/2026. _____________________________________________ Connect with Michael Burge: BIGO Live: https://www.bigo.tv/atlas204 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/atlas.204/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@atlas20428 _____________________________________________ Hosted, Executive Produced & Edited By Ian Bick: https://www.instagram.com/ian_bick/?hl=en https://ianbick.com/ _____________________________________________ Timestamps: 00:00 Facing 40 Years 00:51 A Turbulent Childhood 02:55 The Custody Battle 05:08 Losing Contact with Mom 10:20 Moving to Charlottesville 14:14 Reuniting with Family 16:09 High School Years 21:56 Love and Switzerland 25:00 The Robberies Begin 31:20 The Arrest 36:42 The Robberies in Detail 41:04 The Cost of Crime 44:57 Family Reactions 47:20 Facing the Sentence 52:24 No Snitching 55:22 Thinking of Victims 56:54 First Day of Prison 01:01:00 Life in Max Security 01:03:45 The Weight of Time 01:08:06 Rock Bottom 01:10:32 A Life-Changing Book 01:12:24 Why Prison Changes People 01:15:50 The Bad Days 01:19:07 Hurricane Helene 01:25:54 Giving Back Inside 01:28:30 The Purpose of Programs 01:30:30 Watching Others Go Home 01:33:34 Fear of Reentry 01:37:37 The First Day Out 01:43:53 Hardest Adjustments 01:46:29 Dating After Prison 01:49:24 Making Amends 01:51:55 Facing Judgment ____________________
