GALAXEA Founder Gao Jiyang: Catfish Effect, Zeng Guofan, Waymo vs. Momenta, and Why Xu Huazhe Left

Paglalarawan

I’ve long had a question: why is it that in China’s embodied AI industry, I have yet to meet someone with the kind of intense technological romanticism embodied by figures like Liang Wenfeng or Yang Zhilin? At times, that has left me feeling a little disappointed. Then I met Gao Jiyang. He seems almost like the opposite of a tech romantic — relentlessly pursuing efficiency, survival, and rigorous engineering decomposition. At the time of this interview, GALAXEA’s co-founder Xu Huazhe was about to depart. Perhaps that, too, is a signal of something. Gao told me that robotics is an industry with an exceptionally long chain — to a large extent, you have to stick your head into the dirt. What follows is my conversation with Gao Jiyang, Founder and CEO of GALAXEA. Here’s to moving forward together with AI in 2026. 00:01:45 The Sprinter Kid 00:12:03 Learning from Zeng Guofan 00:25:26 Improving the Hit Rate at Top Conferences 00:33:42 Waymo Has No Founders 00:55:34 Momenta Is the Polar Opposite 01:02:21 The Catfish 01:19:22 Starting from a Terrible Business Plan 01:35:22 Struggling with Full-Device Manufacturing and Supply Chain 01:49:28 Data Recipe 02:16:29 The Robot Brain 02:29:33 The Departure of Xu Huazhe 02:39:00 We Are Naturally Destined to Go Into the Soil 02:51:54 The Wolf Disclaimer: This content does not constitute investment advice.
