Episode 24: Gaza Bridge: The Logic of Survival!

Paglalarawan

In the digital age, we are told that coding is a ticket to global opportunity. But what if you are coding in 8-hour windows of electricity, without a stable internet connection, while navigating the ruins of a war zone? For Mohammad Helles, technology is not just a career—it is a tool for liberation and a mechanism to reclaim a future that systems of power have tried to erase. From his early days as a construction worker saving up for his first laptop to founding Gaza Bridge, Mohammad’s journey is a masterclass in the "winner mindset". In this episode of Builders of the Broken Bazaar, Dr. Tabish Zaman sits down with Mohammad to discuss the reality of remote work under siege. They explore the hidden "extraction" where local brokers and high fees strip Gaza’s digital talent of their earnings, and how Mohammad is building a new, dignified infrastructure to connect aid directly to those the world has forgotten. We explore: • The Construction-to-Code Journey: How Mohammad taught himself web development while working manual labor and managing Gaza’s extreme resource constraints. • The Extraction Crisis: Unpacking how remote workers in Gaza lose up to 50% of their income to payment gateway restrictions and predatory fees. • Gaza Bridge: Mohammad’s vision for a gifting platform that bypasses traditional aid bureaucracy to provide dignified, direct support to unreachable families. • The "Winner Mindset": Why consistency and the refusal to surrender are the only ways to build in a world that feels uncontrollable. • Dignity in Aid: Why the "how" of distribution matters as much as the "what," and why aid should never be a performance. • The Future of Reconstruction: Mohammad’s hopes for rebuilding Gaza’s homes and economy through tech and talent. 🎧 "Building something good takes time... but if I stop, nothing will change. I have to keep trying." Keywords: Gaza tech, software engineering in Gaza, Gaza Bridge, remote work challenges, digital extraction, payment gateways Palestine, Gaza Sky Geeks, winner mindset, huma
