The Skipper Goes To War: Book One of The Skipper Series

The Third Reich on one hand, the British Secret Intelligence Service on the other. Can these trawlermen survive the relentless danger of sea warfare in their new adventure?A historical fiction thriller, this book pays tribute to the legendary, but too often forgotten, heroes of the Royal Naval Patrol Service in World War II. Too many of these stolid British seamen would have 'no grave but the sea.' Their sacrifice must never be forgotten. After somewhat farcical training, the crew learn the true nature of their role and are quickly plunged into the harsh lessons of 1939 naval warfare. Enduring the savagery of escorting east-coast convoys, fighting to move resources needed to defend Britain and sustain the capital, the Skipper knows they must excel in their recently learned military skills. To compound his worries, he is also tasked with supporting the Secret Intelligence Service in carrying out their own covert activities. The invasion of Norway will plunge them into a mission involving peril, courage, and great sacrifice.War is looming and the people of Britain hold their breath; will peace continue or will the horrors of war return? The skipper of a Scarborough trawler fears for his ship and crew, during the coming conflict.Reading this WW2 action fiction adventure, you will enter a world where nations would fall and the future of Europe, perhaps the world, was at stake. The bravery and the heroism of British seamen would play a large part in the ultimate victory: as Churchill later said, 'The navy saved the country, but the fishermen saved the navy!'What readers say:'Can't wait to read the next in the series...''Great to see "Harry Tate's Navy" included in the annals of naval warfare,''Enjoyed this book and loved the ending!''A marvellous piece of naval fiction, with a foundation in real history.''Very easy to get into the story and the feel of the period...'Readers of Douglas Reeman and Alistair MacLean's early work, should enjoy this book.Read more
