A memoir of the early 20th century in Appalachian Ohio. Born in 1920, Thomas Hart's memoir tells the story of a small, tight knit community in rural Ohio on the brink of change. Automobiles become common, roads are widened and paved, and Prohibition forces adults to hide their liquor in the tall grass. Hart relates boyhood memories of a bygone era where children learned in one room school houses, the circus was the greatest spectacle ever to behold, and leisure time consisted of hunting, fishing, camping, cabin building, and springing the best pranks on your friends and neighbors.
