H.P. Lovecraft: A Biography

H.P. Lovecraft was a visionary writer, and his works of horror fiction redefined the genre by creating a mythos so terrifying that his characters, monsters, and writing style are still copied today. His stories are still being made into popular films almost ninety years after his death. In this short biography, we’ll look at the life and career of H.P. Lovecraft, whose imagination invented ancient gods like Cthulhu, forbidden texts like the Necronomicon, and the entirely new genre of cosmic horror, a type of storytelling that demonstrates humanity’s insignificance and isolation in an infinitely uncaring, wholly terrifying universe. But who was the man behind these terrifying tales?Lovecraft’s complex, often troubled life came complete with its own monsters and terrors. We’ll open with his quiet beginnings in Providence, Rhode Island, his creative breakthroughs during years of financial struggle, and the deeply personal fears that shaped his world and his work. We’ll see how Lovecraft’s personal philosophy: his atheism, materialism, and fear of change, became the foundation for his chilling stories, while the more controversial aspects of Lovecraft’s legacy, including his prejudices and racism, also influenced his writing.Lovecraft’s work transcended his lifetime to inspire generations of creators across literature, film, video games, and art. Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to Lovecraft’s world, this book will immerse you in his eerie, brilliant imagination—and show why his stories continue to haunt us nearly a century later.Enter Lovecraft’s world if you dare—and discover the man who dreamed up nightmares that still linger today.Hourlong Presspresents short, clear, to-the-point books that cover everything youneedto know about a topic, and usually can be read in about an hour.Read more
