Bess II: Into the Wind

As a single 21-year-old,Bess Parker ventured forth alone, which was virtually unheard of in 1908, into far southwestern North Dakota to establish a homestead, where she became a successful rancher. Her journey demonstrated her strength and steely will as it was filled with challenges and heartache. After kicking her drunk and abusive husband to the curb in 1916, Bess found herself raising four small children alone in a sod house on the pioneer prairie. Bess II: Into the Wind continues Bess' story through the First World War, the Spanish Flu epidemic and into the 1920s as she works to keep her children and her ranch thriving in dangerous times. She meets Anna ,a schoolteacher who is also lesbian, and given the religious and intolerant nature of the community, Bess and Anna must manage their relationship secretly and discreetly while raising the children--or face the consequences of their forbidden love. BessII is the second in a series of four historical novels by Charles Cranston Jett based on this amazing real-life character.Read more
