Zulfikar Bhutto's Iron Fist: The 1973 Constitution and Power

الوصف

While previous episodes have chronicled the military coups of Ayub Khan and the early political struggles following Partition, this episode turns its gaze to the civilian interlude that defined modern Pakistan's legal framework. In November 1971, amidst the wreckage of the Second Bangladesh War, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto returned to power with a mandate to rebuild the state from the ground up. We explore how he navigated the treacherous path between federalist demands from Balochistan and Sindh, and the centralizing instincts of the Pakistani establishment. The conversation focuses on the drafting of the 1973 Constitution, a document that remains the country's supreme law today. We examine the pivotal role of Khan Abdul Wali Khan and the Awami National Party in securing provincial autonomy, the contentious inclusion of Islamic provisions, and Bhutto's ultimate consolidation of executive power through the Larkana incident and the suppression of dissent. This is the story of how a charismatic leader wrote a progressive constitution but simultaneously built the authoritarian machinery that would later enable his own downfall and execution. #ZulfikarAliBhutto #PakistanConstitution #1973Constitution #BhuttoEra #LiaquatBagh #AwamiNationalParty #KhanAbdulWaliKhan #BalochistanInsurgency #SindhPolitics #IslamicProvisions #ParliamentaryDemocracy #NixonShock #BangladeshWar #Majlis-e-Shoora #LarkanaIncident #FexingoHistory #SouthAsianHistory #History Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
