The Swat Story: Mullah Fazlullah and the Rise of the Taliban

الوصف

In this episode, Lucas and Luna examine the life of Mullah Fazlullah, the Swat Valley's infamous 'Radio Mullah,' whose fiery sermons on illegal FM transmitters turned a scenic mountain valley into a battleground. From his early days as a village cleric to his emergence as the head of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan in Swat, we trace how a personal feud over a polio vaccination camp escalated into a full-scale insurgency. We explore the 2009 Battle of Swat, the Pakistani military's Operation Rah-e-Rast, and the plight of two million displaced civilians. We also meet the unlikely heroine who stood up to the Taliban: Malala Yousafzai, whose shooting in 2012 brought global attention. Along the way, we separate the man from the myth, debunking tales of his wealth and Hollywood-style fortresses, and we consider the complex legacy of a conflict that reshaped Pakistan's counterterrorism strategy and the lives of millions. #MullahFazlullah #SwatValley #Tehrik-e-TalibanPakistan #OperationRah-e-Rast #MalalaYousafzai #RadioMullah #PakistanHistory #Counterinsurgency #PolioVaccination #SwatConflict #Mingora #KhyberPakhtunkhwa #Taliban #FMradio #Displacement #MilitaryOperation #SouthAsia #FexingoHistory Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
