Sembilan puluh persen pertanian tembakau di Indonesia ada di Jawa Timur, Jawa Tengah dan Nusa Tenggara Barat. Data BPS 2005 menyebut jumlah petani tembakau kurang dari 1 persen dari total tenaga kerja di tanah air. Upah mereka hanya setengah dari upah buruh nasional. Para petani tembakau kerap dipakai sebagai alasan untuk menolak pengendalian tembakau yang lebih ketat. Tapi urnalis KBR Citra Dyah Prastuti bertemu dua petani yang sudah membuktikan kalau bertanam tembakau itu rugi.
