Mahi Mahi is a powerful Punjabi Sufi Qawwali about the fire of Ishq a fire that burns away the self and reveals the Beloved everywhere. “Ishq di agg… jis tan laagi, so jal gaya.” The song begins with a deep male alaap before opening into a traditional Qawwali arrangement built around harmonium, tanpura, tabla, dholak, handclaps and male chorus. The restrained opening gradually grows into an ecstatic rhythmic climax, echoing the energy of a live Sufi mehfil.
