Thinking of buying a boat? Get it right the first time.: A Comprehensive Guide for first time boat owners

An excellent guide whether you are new to sailing or thinking of upgrading your existing boat. This indispensable, fully illustrated book will take you through the steps of buying a boat, help with deciding on the best mooring, and appraise you of the basics of repairs and maintenance. A boat can very easily be the second largest purchase you make, after a house and frequently well ahead of the price of a car. Houses have historically gone up in value, and whilst boats tend to have a fairly long life, their values only go one way in the end. Boats can rarely be accused of being an investment. The costs of buying and running a boat can be considerable. A rule of thumb is that the annual running and berthing costs will add up to about 10% of the purchase price. A clear and logical approach is needed to accurately assess the full cost of boat ownership and to arrive at the right decision in terms of boat size, affordability, method of acquisition and choice of mooring. This book is relevant to both prospective and current owners of all types of pleasure boat, from dinghies to large sail or motor cruisers, whether berthed on the sea or on inland waters. This book explains: The cost of purchasing and owning a boat; The factors that determine the use that you are likely to get from the boat; Alternatives to sole ownership; What you should consider before taking the plunge; The likely proceeds from selling a boat. Whether you are considering buying a boat in the near future or just dreaming of a purchase at a future date, this book is for you.Read more
