the river: a memoir

The impact of alcoholism on a New York family is described through the eyes of a young boy. The boy's journey through a series of traumatic experiences, family shelters, and foster homes illustrates the insidious mechanism of addiction and how it propagates from one generation to the next. His struggle to survive is a story of brokenness, heartache, and hope."Gut wrenching, inspiring and crushing as only real life can be. A guide out of hell if you're determined to make the journey." - book lover"Where Has This Great Book Been Hiding?" - bookworm"Fast-moving, gripping...." - NY Shannon"... very unlikely and magnificent achievement demonstrates the power of one young man’s will." - Joe Falcone"ENGROSSING READ” - NGK"One of the best memoirs I've ever read." - Amy M"I loved this book. No, I LOVED this book!! It is a tale of sorrowful abuse and then rising from the ashes of a destroyed childhood. It is a true story. So many horrible events the author and his many siblings endured in their childhood. Disturbing, yes, but I couldn’t put this book down. It should be required reading for junior high, senior high and anyone else who feels they’ve been given a rough life. EXCELLENT!"- javajanet"...wonderfully written, painfully wrought, emotionally fulfilling memoir..." - Kate Donohue"Brutally Real!!" - Heather M"Powerful" - Greg Nance"I literally laughed and cried. Thank you for writing this book." - Amy CorbeckyRead more
