THE EDMUND FITZGERALD: FROM GLORY TO GUT WRENCHING TRAGEDY

On Monday evening, November 10th 1975, the famed iron-ore freighter, Edmund Fitzgerald, nose dived to the bottom of Great Lake Superior. The end was so sudden and catastrophic that not a single Mayday was sent, and there weren't any survivors. Nobody was left to testify as to exactly what had happened. Ever since that horrific tragedy, countless theories have been advanced to try and explain why "The Big Fitz" went down. Some were credible. others were absurd. In the book: The Edmund Fitzgerald: From Glory to Gut Wrenching Tragedy, brilliant author, Timothy J. Thompson cuts through all the myth and mystery to provide the reader with a very detailed analysis of this entirely avoidable tragedy. Mr. Thompson details the questionable hull construction, the ceaseless overloading of the cargo hold, the poor maintenance, industry wide negligence, and faulty navigation, each of which combined to work in perfect unison to produce the perfect recipe for disaster. When you have finished reading this outstanding book, you will know exactly, precisely what caused the Edmund Fitzgerald to founder. Moreover, you will realize that it was NOT a mystery as so many other authors have erroneously concluded, but, rather, an inevitable tragedy just waiting to happen.Read more
