Together in Secrecy: Effren’s Voyages

Effren Gorgens, a Navy cadet is accused of homosexuality and discharged from duty after the Korean War. He felt he committed the worst sin of all as he sailed back to America and struggled to make peace with himself and his choices to build a new life. No matter how much he runs away or lies to himself, a man’s true identity can never be shaken off. Set in 1940-50s America, Effren’s story is a travel back in time to a period when the young generation of the country tried to grapple with a new reality handed haphazardly to them by the devastating wars.
