The Ranger School Survival Guide

The Ranger School Survival Guideby Jack Wellingham is an essential, no-nonsense handbook for anyone aspiring to conquer the grueling United States Army Ranger School. Written by a Ranger-qualified Army veteran and extreme adventurer, this 2025 guide blends battle-tested advice with a lighthearted, irreverent tone to make the infamous "suck" of Ranger training feel approachable and even enjoyable. Wellingham, who earned his Ranger Tab through 61 days of mud, mountains, swamps, hunger, and sleep deprivation, shares practical tips without the chest-thumping—focusing instead on real-world preparation, mindset hacks, and humor to keep spirits high.Divided into four parts, the book covers every stage of the journey: Pre-Ranger Prep (assessing readiness, physical and mental training, gear, and nutrition); The Phases (detailed breakdowns of Benning, Mountain, and Swamp phases); Skills and Strategies (land navigation, patrolling, leadership, survival, and coping with fatigue); and Beyond the Tab (recovery, reintegration, and leveraging the experience). Appendices provide invaluable tools like gear checklists, workout templates, nutrition plans, land nav exercises, a glossary, recommended resources, and FAQs.Whether you're a soldier dreaming of the tab, an officer seeking leadership cred, or just curious about one of the military's toughest courses, this guide equips you with the tools to survive—and thrive—without sugarcoating the challenges.
