Targum Americana: Tehillim / Psalms

Psalms speak to us as they express an array of human emotions — joy, fear, gratitude, rage, hope, and more.Yet,much of this is lost in most translationsbecause:Few English speakers understand or can even read the original Hebrew.Nuances and poetry in the Hebrew words of Psalms are difficult to translate.Psalms often refer to people, places, events, and practices unknown to us today. The translator's word choice sometimes infers meanings not intended in the Hebrew. So, we lose much of the emotion that tugs at the heart every bit as much as it callsto the intellect. Much of Psalms is poetry, and poetry rarely crosses the languagebarrier well. But many translators try and fail when they use explanatory footnotes ,the typical solution to these problems. You see...Reading footnotes interrupts the main reading flow. The typical footnote is written in a smaller more-difficult-to-read typeface. This Targum - Psalms uses the successful solution found in Targum Onkelos andthe first book in the Targum Americana series: The Five Books of Moses.Targum Americana is a starting point for abetter understandingof the Hebrew texts.Targum Americana calls on thereliabilityof the ancient Biblical commentators.Targum Americana focuses onclear meaningwithin emotional expression.PSALMS are wonderful when properly understood. We can never exhaust the many messagesand lessons the Book of Psalms presents. That is God’s gift to us.Start yourbetter understanding and appreciation of Psalmswith your purchase today.Read more
