Story of Medicine

This is the original Story of Medicine, first published in 1985 but as fresh today as it was then. Dr Vernon Coleman's history book is unlike any other. It covers all aspects of medicine from the very earliest days and traces developments alongside social and political changes. Dr Coleman MB ChB DSc FRSA is the international bestselling author of over 100 books. What the papers say: 'The Story of Medicine endeavours to chart the history of medicine from man's origins to the present day in 250 pages. Vernon Coleman manages to handle this project with aplomb. The book concerns itself with the more social and political aspects of medicine, and the main historical thread is broken up by an abundance of anecdotes and amusing stories about dodgy quacks...it will sell by the bucket load because it is a very worthwhile read.' - The Lakes Leader 'Entertaining! 'Read it and it will make you much more of a star at parties than any guide to social success.' - Lancashire Evening Telegraph 'Meaty and fascinating!' Coventry Telegraph 'Good bedside companion.' Morning News 'Easy to read, anecdotal!' - Daily Mail 'Brisk highly readable canter through the annals of medicine.' Sunday Independent (Ireland) 'Absorbing and thought provoking.' Gloucs Echo 'Light and fascinating reading.' Irish Independent 'Dr Coleman's readable and non pompous style makes this a fascinating book.' Evening Telegraph 'Summary of progress from Ancient Greece to organ transplants.' - Evening Post 'Scholarly and objective study, written in a style the layman can enjoy. Will command attention from those with an interest in medicine and appeal to a much wider general readership.' - Warwickshire and Worcestershire Life 'Amazing facts!'
